Executive Sanctuary: A Masterclass in Refined Workspace Design

THE BRIEF: Crafting a distinct environment

When these directors approached onepercent, they shared a clear vision: a private space where they could nurture both personal comfort and professional ambition. They envisioned a sanctuary separate from their team’s ecosystem, complete with a boardroom, lounge, reception, and a kitchen for their private chef.

The goal was to create an environment where they could house personal items, hold special meetings, and continue growing their company in a setting that reflected their appreciation for sophisticated design.

THE CANVAS: Working with existing elements

The project presented interesting parameters. The floors had already been laid, walls were in place, air conditioning units installed, and structural columns were present and they defined the space.

For our design team, these elements simply offered a framework around which to compose something extraordinary. The glass partitions were designed to complement the existing layout, with careful attention given to the pillars. We even repositioned electrical sockets on these columns, transforming potential obstacles into functional elements.

THE EXECUTION: Privacy through thoughtful design

“The client valued privacy,” our team explains. “The floor-to-ceiling wood cladding creates a discreet separation between the reception area and the offices.”

This is where the onepercent philosophy shines. Custom paneling creates seamless transitions between spaces, while hidden features – such as a concealed boardroom TV – add subtle sophistication. The design includes two entrances to the boardroom, allowing different groups to move through the space with elegant efficiency.

THE PERSONAL TRILOGY

Each director’s space reflects their individual character. “Each office had its own unique elements,” our design lead notes. “One director prioritized music, another preferred a lounge atmosphere, and the third desired a bar area.”

MATERIAL MATTERS: A Considerate Dialogue

Materials tell their own subtle story throughout the space. Our collaboration with Mueller Manifactur brought in desks featuring high-quality woods enhanced with leather accents, elevating the concept of “office furniture” to something far more personal.

The kitchen presents an intriguing contrast: Poliform cabinetry elegantly conceals the refrigerator, freezer, oven and sink, while an Alpes Inox stainless steel island makes a confident central statement.

Iconic pieces like the Eames Chair complement contemporary selections from our Poliform collection, while select Minotti pieces add distinctive character to the directors’ private offices.

DETAILS THAT ENHANCE THE EXPERIENCE

A convex mirror at the entrance creates a striking first impression. The Philip Starck-designed reception desk features a yellow beam beneath its glass top, a colour that reappears on the island sofa, creating a subtle visual connection between the welcoming area and more private spaces. The directors’ desks include leather details beautifully integrated with the wood surfaces, while carefully selected marble pieces appear as thoughtful accents throughout.

THE OUTDOORS: Embracing the natural setting

“The clients particularly appreciated the view from their offices,” our team shares, “so we created an outdoor area with BBQ and kitchen facilities.”

Awnings ensure these spaces remain comfortable even during Malta’s warmest days. This is perfect for hosting staff gatherings, client events, or moments of personal reflection with the island’s natural beauty as backdrop.
